Take a driving tour of Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge with a US Fish and Wildlife Service volunteer to learn how to identify the many birds and other wildlife of the refuge. All about Alligators- Public & MIWA Members Welcome

Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge is hosting program about the American Alligator. View a photo presentation, handle gator artifacts, learn some fun facts and find out where the "big boys" hang out. Hawk Identification Program-Public & MIWA Members Welcome

Sunday, November 14, 1 pm

Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge volunteer and naturalist, Al Brayton, is presenting a program on the refuge raptors on Sunday, November 14 at 1 pm. He will discuss the natural history and identification tips for the common hawks and falcons observed at the refuge. The program will consist of a photo presentation and discussion followed by a driving tour in the refuge van. Please call 321-861-5601 to make reservations.

Refuge Nature Photography Club- Public & MIWA Members Welcome

Thursday, November 18 at 6 pm

Join local nature photographer Thomas Dunkerton for a presentation on his photography taken at the refuge. Thomas is a member of the Nikon Pro-Staff and spends a majority of his free time photographing wildlife and landscapes and bird watching at the refuge. He will share his first hand wildlife experiences and tips on where and how to capture them. He will also discuss some post-processing techniques. The photography club meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 18 at 6 pm. Thursday's workshop is free and all are welcome to attend. Volunteers Needed for Butterfly Survey

Sunday, November 21, 9 am

Participate in the butterfly survey at the refuge and learn techniques to identify butterflies while collecting valuable scientific data. Participants will work with refuge staff and volunteers conducting field surveys in a variety of refuge habitats. The data is collected for the Florida Butterfly Monitoring Network project of the University of Florida. No butterfly identification experience necessary. The survey is scheduled for Sunday, November 21 at 9 am. Insect/sun protection and drinking water are recommended. Call 321-861-5601 for information and to make reservations
