Celebrate National Wildlife Refuge Week on Saturday, October 16 at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge from 9 am to 3 pm. This free annual event celebrates the Refuge System's pivotal role in offering visitors outdoor recreational opportunities as well as showcasing the conservation and recovery of wildlife species on Refuges across the country. Programs will include children’s activities and crafts, face painting, free giveaways, guided nature tours, Native Plant Society Plant Sale, reptile and raptor live animal exhibit, live music, and a rain barrel workshop. All programs and activities are free except for the Rain Barrel Workshop. Refreshments will be sold by the Merritt Island Wildlife Association. Refuge Photography Club -Thursday, October 28 at 6 pm Professional Photographer Robert Amoruso will be the speaker for the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge Photography Club meeting scheduled for Thursday, October 28th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. His workshop will focus specifically on bird photography, exposure, and composition. Thursday’s workshop is free and all are welcome to attend. Part two of the workshop will be Sunday, October 31st from 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Robert will lead a photography field trip around the Refuge. The cost Sunday’s workshop is $35 per person.
