February 2012 Refuge Programs - Members & Public Welcome!

Beginning Bird Tours - Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays & Sundays at 9 am.

A Fee of $3.00 per person, MIWA Members & children under age 16 are free. Cash preferred. Join a Refuge volunteer for a guided three hour driving tour in the Refuge shuttle bus to learn how to identify many species of birds. Call 321-861-5601 for reservations.

Eagle Program— Tuesdays, 2/14, 2/21 & 2/28 at 1 pm & every Weds. in February at 1 pm

Enjoy a presentation about the American Bald Eagle and learn about the life history of this magnificent bird. Call 321-861-5601 for reservations.

Eagle Watch Along Black Point Drive — Mondays: 1-4 pm (except 2/20), Tuesdays: 2-4 pm, Weds: 2-4 pm, Thurs.: 9-11:30 am, Fridays: 1-3 pm, & Sundays: 2-4 pm.

Weather permitting, a Refuge volunteer will be stationed along Black Point Wildlife Drive between Signs 11 & 12. A spotting scope will be available for viewing the eagle’s nest. Reservations are NOT required, drive to Black Point Drive.

Nature Hike ALong the Visitor Center Boardwalk - Saturday, 2/25 at 11 am.

Take a guided hike along the 1/4 mile boardwalk and learn about the plants and animals of three habitats. Boardwalk is wheelchair accessible. Call 321-861-5601 for reservations.

Florida Panther Program - Mondays in February at 1 pm except 2/20.

Learn about the endangered Florida Panther through a photo presentation. Call 321-861-5601 for reservations.

Black Point Wildlife Drive Naturalist Program - Fridays, 2/10 & 2/24 from 1 - 3 pm & Saturdays, 1:30 to 3:30 pm.

Weather permitting, meet a refuge volunteer at Stop #9 for an informal talk about the refuge and its wilflife. No reservations required.

All About Manatees - Thursday, 2/16 at 2 pm.

Learn all about manatees with a refuge volunteer by viewing a photo presentation and hands on manatee artifacts. Call 321-861-5601 for reservations.

Hawk Presentation & Tour - Sunday, 2/19 at 1 pm

View a photo presentation followed by a driving tour in a shuttle bus. Call 321-861-5601 for reservations.

All About Alligators - Thursdays, 2/9 & 2/23 at 2 pm and Saturday, 2/25 at 1 pm

Learn all about alligators through a photo presentation and hands on alligator artifacts. Call 321-861-5601 for reservations.

Cruickshank Trail Hike - (5 mile loop) - Wednesday, 2/22 at 10 am.

Take a hike with a refuge volunteer. Meet at Stop #9 parking lot along Black Point Wildlife Drive. Bring sunscreen, water, insect repellent, & snack and wear sturdy closed shoes. Call 321-861-5601 for reservations.

Refuge Photography Club — Thursday, 2/23 at 6 pm—

Scrub Ridge Trail Hike - Friday, 2/24 at 9 am

Take a hike along a 1 mile loop in scrub habitat with a refuge volunteer. Bring water, snack & insect repellant and wear sturdy closed shoes. Call 321-861-5601 for reservations.

Butterfly Presentation & Survey – Sunday, 2/26 at 12 pm

View a photo presentation to learn to I.D. butterflies. Then join volunteers & staff for a butterfly survey. No experience necessary. Bring water, snack & insect repellant and wear closed shoes and long pants. Call 321-861-5601.
